HOW IT ALL STARTED:

Merry Productions was founded on 09.27.97 on a rainy day. I was sick from the flu and was out for a week and due to boredom, I decided to create a website for my friends. It originally started as a personal website where I would post pictures of events that we attended, but quickly grew into a more informative website for the Asian community through my involvement in the media industry.

BACKGROUND:

My interest in the media started out at senior year at Lowell High School (San Francisco, CA) where my dean introduced me to Journalism which led me to actually winning a second place Jr. Press Award in 1992 for an article that I wrote for The Lowell on teenage shoplifting. After graduation, I pursued further into Broadcast Journalism and got involved with several great work experiences. My achievements included a KQED 13 part  documentary on "You and Your Bad Dog", which featured my dog, Jazmine and I. You can still catch episodes of this series once in awhile on the PBS network.

From 1996-1997, I worked at KMEL 106.1FM as an Audio Production Assistant. I had a great time there hanging out with Chuy and the rest of the KMEL's DJs.

From 1997-1998, I became an on-air DJ at KPOO 89.5FM and gained a vast experience in the radio business. (I even interviewed several local artists such as Rappin' 4-Tay and JT the Bigga Figga!).

During these years after graduation, I had decided that I wanted to get involved in the Asian Entertainment Business. I became a high school leader at Cameron House and also coached basketball at JCYC for 3rd graders.

NETWORK:

I was also an avid event planner at that time and felt that "Asian" events were not broadcasted well enough. Most of my friends always complained that "There's nothing to do here in San Francisco!", which I'm sure most of you can relate to similar instances.  Since I was active in the media and had a lot of contacts that always updated me of weekly events, I thought it would be a great idea to start a virtual community message list of local "Asian" events. My email list started with only 200 people (most were close friends) and had grown over to more than 1700 local party/event seekers! And that's how it all started.............I still currently work with some of the best Asian Entertainment Groups in the Bay Area:

  • Abzolut: These pioneers were the first to endorse my promotions

  • Synergy: These guys have frequent parties for the 21+/23+ crowd

  • Platinum: These guys provide both the 18+/21+ events & play in my Bball league

  • Club Zen: I had previously been a guest writer for them

These affiliates are very active in my promotions as well as professional entertainment mediums.

PAST PROJECTS:

In the fall of 1999, I've also started my own non-profit basketball league last year with 10 Asian Entertainment Mediums playing in it. I worked closely with Mayor Willie Brown’s Beacon Program in getting this organized.

I also taught basic computer classes to adults at the Visitation Valley Middle School in San Francisco on Monday & Wednesday nights. Check out my Spring 2002 students and their websites!

JUST ME:

In my spare time, I am an independent financial consultant. My hobbies include surfing the net, networking with the community, rollerblading, basketball, watching HBO & SHOWTIME original programming, shooting craps in Vegas and traveling, and raising my two kids.

Merry Productions is always willing to pick up new projects and help promote your events. If interested in pursuing a working relation, please email me at merry@merry.org
